Captive Prince - C. S. Pacat - Jokaste/Lykaios

I’d be interested in something dark and dubconny here. Something about Jokaste taking out resentment over the role she’s been put into: in Damen and Kastor’s lives, as a woman in Akielon society – on Lykaios (who’s in a worse one). Or using Lykaios to feel in some way closer to Damen, whether with Damen granting Jokaste the use of his slaves or behind his back, with Lykaios fearing him finding out and yet not being in a position to refuse Jokaste. Or perhaps something with Jokaste being aware that Lykaios is going to die in the coup. I could also enjoy something with Lykaios being attracted to Jokaste and seeing her with Damen. Maybe she picks up on Jokaste’s involvement with Kastor and helps her to conceal it from Damen?

Something dealing with how Lykaios has been controlled, on the watch even for slight skin marring (in the extra story about Erasmus, there was a slave who fell, got a scar, and fell down the ranks). Or about the intellectual restrains accompanying the training. I’d like some recognition (by the narrative, not necessarily by Jokaste) of the great and fundamental wrong that has been done to Lykaios, whether Jokaste thinks that this can be in some way remedied or whether she just writes Lykaios off at that point. Perhaps she deliberately does nothing to help her when she knows Damen’s slaves will be killed off because she thinks she would be better off dead? Maybe she’s the one who suggests this to Kastor, whether for that reason or because she resents Lykaios for Damen’s actions?

On a happier note, I would love a slave uprising that would set Lykaios at least temporarily free or if she were somehow to escape instead of having her throat slit at the beginning of the book. Maybe she can find some happiness and safety elsewhere? Similarly, what if Jokaste decided it would be safer to escape from the court at the time of Kastor's coup (as the others who knew about it were killed off and he seemed a little colder towards her, maybe) and perhaps took Lykaios along with her if Lykaios had survived somehow (having been despatched on an errand somewhere, or hiding, or whatever).

My pairing specific DNW is that I don’t enjoy happiness-in-slavery tales. I’d appreciate a sense that Lykaios’ position is depriving her of choices and putting her under the control of others, and not a romantic/happy slave/mistress fic.

Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis - Lucy Pevensie/Aravis Tarkheena

We’re told that Lucy has been participating in the wars waged by Narnia and we see her fight in defence of Anvard, while when we first meet Aravis she is described by Shasta as having a sword. I’d love to read something about them training together. Perhaps they can teach each other some Narnian/Calormene fighting styles/tactics. The Narnians seem to use straight swords and the Calormenes scimitars and Lewis tells us of Eustace in the Last Battle that he can use the former but not the latter. Is the same true of Lucy? It seems that knowing how to use the weapons of a potentially hostile neighbour and how to defend yourself against them would be helpful, particularly since Archenland and Narnia might fear further attacks from Calormen after the events of A Horse and His Boy. Similarly, if Aravis is to live in the North, it would be useful for her to learn how they fight. I really like women with strong visible muscles and I imagine Lucy might be in good shape ;) Perhaps Aravis also appreciates this? Training exertion can turn into exertion of a different kind.

On a similar note, since Rabadash had fought in a tournament while at Cair Paravel, perhaps Aravis can too? Does this cause unease among the Narnian court/what other particular things remind anyone of the last time a Calormene was courting a Pevensie? Maybe Aravis can ask Lucy for her favour to wear? Maybe they’re competitive and make a bet based on the outcome of one of the contests? I've a preference for fighting women not to be depicted as singular and exceptional in Narnia.

I’d love to read about them first getting together, or the lead-up to that, with some pining and wistful thoughts. What do they appreciate about the other? What Calormene customs does Aravis keep up in the North? Does Lucy take up any of them when they get involved?

As a minor like, I like the thought of Lucy with short hair.

Il Gattopardo | The Leopard - Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa - Angelica Sedàra/Concetta Corbera

I’d love something between them during the time that Tancredi’s courtship is being set up. At the dinner, Concetta notices the faults in Angelica’s made-up appearance while Tancredi only sees her beauty, but perhaps this leads her in time to a fuller appreciation? Because she spends time looking at Angelica trying to see what Tancredi sees in her that he doesn’t see in her that she too comes to fall for Angelica? I’d be interested too in their relationship in his absence, when Angelica uses visiting Concetta as a pretext to hear news of Tancredi. How do they occupy their time during those visits? What does either of them think now of the other compared to what they remember of her from their friendship in their early teens? I liked the scene from the film at the ball with Concetta confessing to Angelica that she has never danced well, to which Angelica replies that it depends with whom one dances. Perhaps Angelica can try to teach Concetta to enjoy dancing some time?

Perhaps after Concetta’s disinterest in Cavriaghi, she misses the signs of Angelica trying to flirt with her? Or perhaps Angelica tries to give her some practice in doing so, as well as practice in physical intimacies? After the announcement of Angelica and Tancredi’s engagement, perhaps Concetta too gets to kiss Angelica to welcome her into the family, as the men of the family do? Or she finds out about her and Tancredi’s kiss before his departure and wants to take his kiss off her mouth in jealousy?

I would also enjoy something set in the time skips. I particularly enjoyed the last chapter because of its further exploration of the family relations. How did they get there? We are told that Angelica becomes politically involved – something about that would be interesting too. Does she play any role in the fight for hegemony in the house fought between the Corbera sisters? Does Angelica ever notice the cold spark in Concetta’s eyes that Fabrizio never did?

L'amica geniale | The Neapolitan Novels - Elena Ferrante - Elena Greco/Lila Cerullo

I’d prefer something set before they have children.

Perhaps something set around the time of Lila’s marriage to Stefano, in the style of those scenes from the second book where Elena goes over to study there, or with the bathing and the trying on of Lila’s clothes, just with more femslash! I was struck particularly by two scenes of Elena looking at Lila, the one when Lila is dressing for the wedding ceremony and a passage in the last book where Elena notes that she had looked only at Lila when she came in and scarcely noticed anybody else. I’d like a look at how Lila relates to Elena. So much of the series is about Elena’s view of Lila, and it would be interesting to see something of how their relationship looks like from the other side. I was touched by Lila’s line at the beach that she would have her future children spend time with Elena because she knows the value of time with her.

I particularly liked the sections about Elena’s school life and then studies, and less so the focus on the children and mothering. I liked too the sections of the book that talked of Elena’s writing and the publishing industry and the promotions.
