I’d love something between them during the time that Tancredi’s courtship is being set up. At the dinner, Concetta notices the faults in Angelica’s made-up appearance while Tancredi only sees her beauty, but perhaps this leads her in time to a fuller appreciation? Because she spends time looking at Angelica trying to see what Tancredi sees in her that he doesn’t see in her that she too comes to fall for Angelica? I’d be interested too in their relationship in his absence, when Angelica uses visiting Concetta as a pretext to hear news of Tancredi. How do they occupy their time during those visits? What does either of them think now of the other compared to what they remember of her from their friendship in their early teens? I liked the scene from the film at the ball with Concetta confessing to Angelica that she has never danced well, to which Angelica replies that it depends with whom one dances. Perhaps Angelica can try to teach Concetta to enjoy dancing some time?
Perhaps after Concetta’s disinterest in Cavriaghi, she misses the signs of Angelica trying to flirt with her? Or perhaps Angelica tries to give her some practice in doing so, as well as practice in physical intimacies? After the announcement of Angelica and Tancredi’s engagement, perhaps Concetta too gets to kiss Angelica to welcome her into the family, as the men of the family do? Or she finds out about her and Tancredi’s kiss before his departure and wants to take his kiss off her mouth in jealousy?
I would also enjoy something set in the time skips. I particularly enjoyed the last chapter because of its further exploration of the family relations. How did they get there? We are told that Angelica becomes politically involved – something about that would be interesting too. Does she play any role in the fight for hegemony in the house fought between the Corbera sisters? Does Angelica ever notice the cold spark in Concetta’s eyes that Fabrizio never did?
L'amica geniale | The Neapolitan Novels - Elena Ferrante - Elena Greco
I particularly liked the sections about Elena’s school life and then studies, and less so the focus on the children and mothering, so I’d prefer something set before they have children. I liked too the sections of the book that talked of her writing and the publishing industry and the promotions.
I’d love some femslash with her and Lila. Perhaps something set around the time of Lila’s marriage to Stefano, in the style of those scenes from the second book where Elena goes over to study there, or with the bathing and the trying on of Lila’s clothes, just with more femslash! I was struck particularly by two scenes of Elena looking at Lila, the one when Lila is dressing for the wedding ceremony and a passage in the last book where Elena notes that she had looked only at Lila when she came in and scarcely noticed anybody else.
More broadly, I’d like a look at how Lila relates to Elena. So much of the series is about Elena’s view of Lila, and it would be interesting to see something of how their relationship looks like from the other side. I was touched by Lila’s line at the beach that she would have her future children spend time with Elena because she knows the value of time with her.
In a more tropey fashion, how about something from a time loop AU where Elena tries to prevent Tina from getting captured?
琅琊榜 | Nirvana in Fire (TV) - Mu Nihuang, Xia Dong
MCS recognises that nobody cares more about Nihuang's happiness than Xia Dong. Clearly, that means Xia Dong should do her best to ensure it. With kissing.
I’d love to see something about their time in the army, whether about the first circumstances of their meeting or something focusing on their developing relationship around that time. Maybe something about them training together? I’d love something dealing with a conflict between their affection for each other and their responsibilities – Nihuang’s to the defence of the border, Xia Dong’s to the Xuanjing Bureau. Perhaps somebody is casting suspicion upon Nihuang and Xia Dong has to try to save her from being framed?
I’d love to see some pining between them. When Xia Dong talks at the beginning of canon about Nihuang finding a place, she turns to look at her before dropping her gaze. Find a place by my side! Despite the constraints of the societal set-up, I was still saddened that Nihuang had had to give up her command to Mu Qing and that she was facing so much pressure to be married off. I’d love to see her have some adventures and I’d like to see something about her being in a position of power post-canon where she can put her intellect and her experience to good use. I’d also enjoy something dealing with courtly politics and intrigue.
