Hello,
Thank you for reading my letter!
I’ve tried to leave specific scenarios and also some more general thoughts. I hope it’ll give at least a general idea of the kind of thing I’d like. Treats very welcome!
I am on AO3 as Nabielka.
DNWs (please do not write me, including mentions unless specified otherwise):
- BDSM
- D/s dynamics
- A/B/O verse
- pregnancy/surrogacy (in canons with pregnancy, mentions of the existence of previous pregnancies is fine)
- rape (real or pretend)
- prostitution/porn
- trans characters
- modern AU
- mummy/daddy kink
- 2nd POV
- Christmas (passing mentions fine)
- lobotomies, a focus on mental health issues
- use of the word 'bitch' or 'cunt' (the latter except when used as a genital descriptor)
- infidelity or non-exclusive relationships between the requested pairings (exception for BB)
In general, I am not interested in PWP and prefer a fade to black (or to grey); in particular, I do not like descriptions of male sexual organs.
Bibi Blocksberg (2002) - Rabia von Katzenstein, Barbara Blocksberg
To my knowledge, this canon is available in German, Spanish, French, Polish; there may be other languages. I watched the Polish dub, so if any dialogue I refer to is different than you’ve seen, that’s why. I’ve seen the Blue Owl sequel, but it didn’t make that much of an impression on me, I’m not familiar with the audio drama or animations, I don’t know Tina.
Rabia and Barbara! After Rabia imprisons the now magicless Barbara, she taunts her about how sweet she is now that she doesn’t recognise her old ‘sister’. They are both in the inner circle and must have known each other for many years, since Walpurgia accepted Barbara as a young girl. Is Rabia’s resentment of Bibi as being part-human and being raised among humans partially a resentment at losing Barbara? Barbara married not only a human man, but a human man who wishes his wife was not a witch; probably Rabia thinks this is a waste and Barbara is throwing away her potential. Frustrated bitter attraction would be good, but the same vibe in gen would also be fine.
If Barbara still gives up her magic powers (hopefully still temporarily), but doesn’t get imprisoned by Rabia, I think this provides a wonderful opportunity for some ‘identity porn’, with Rabia getting close to Barbara under false pretenses (maybe she’s trying to get invited to the house to steal the crystal ball more successfully). Please don't have Barbara (or Bibi) lose magical powers forever - fine if she doesn't have them for a time, but please no explicitly living this long-term. An attempt at seduction to take advantage of what appears to be Barbara and Bernard's failing marriage?
Rabia sets off all her problems because of her dislike of Bibi as being part-human and being raised among humans. But from a modern perspective, the legal system of the coven leaves a lot to be desired. After Rabia breaks the crystal ball, Walpurgia passes summary judgement and refuses to allow another witch to speak anything in Rabia’s defence, offering only that they can call together a court, but that Walpurgia can only reveal to her the verdict. Rabia does wrong, but it is still an injustice. I think an older Bibi could try to bring about some changes to this process, at which point it would be interesting to explore this as a Rabia & Bibi scenario (without necessarily direct involvement from Barbara): Bibi having to reconcile principles with their bad beneficiaries, due process being worthy in its own right even when it benefits enemies, Rabia having to accept benefit coming from something she hates (human effect on society).
I like the idea that Barbara was always a Blocksberg. You don't have to make this clear, but I would rather not have her changing her surname to Bernard's.
The Cabots - Cat Sebastian - Peter Cabot, Caleb Murphy
The canon is a duology (third book upcoming) of short books; the characters I’m requesting are from Peter Cabot Gets Lost and knowledge of the first book is not necessary to the request.
I really like fraught and complicated relationships where family members are working on maintaining the relationship despite difficulties. Caleb loves his mother, but he doesn’t want to live a life of pretending to be straight in his tiny hometown, but even before Peter, he thought about something more than casual with another man in the future. I’d like something where she does find out, but comes to terms with it or is at least on the path to doing so. If she’s dubious about homosexuality and would rather a normal life for Caleb, but he’s still her beloved son and so she’s willing to meet Peter and try to understand, that’s great for me. If the fic ends at the level of acknowledging Peter has even one positive feature as a partner or son-in-law, it will be all right for me. I’m looking for ambivalence and difficulty, not anything virulent or violent or leading to estrangement.
Time travel fic get-(back-)together fic where one of them is thrown back into their senior year to try to get together again? From early months in Los Angeles, not a longer-established relationship; if it’s been too long and you lose too much and the person you love no longer quite exists, it’s just too sad! They do talk about how it could have been nice to get together earlier, it’s just tempting fate :) Peter recalls being sad and stressed and approaching his future like a doom in his senior year, so I think it could be reassuring to him to have someone who likes and wants him so much that getting back with him (and presenting him with a happier future than he’s envisaging) is a priority.
While he’s still thinking that it’s just a short roadtrip fling, Caleb thinks that in other circumstances Peter wouldn’t pay him any attention, but we know that Peter’s actually been low-key crushing for a while. Cute scene where Caleb finds this out? Meeting up again with mutual friend Ernie Walsh, unfortunate recipient of a most scathing letter? Some of the joy of them actually moving in together?
The holiday coda (available if you sign up for the author’s mailing list, but you can write just based on the novella if you prefer) gave me a lot of things I liked: them agreeing to move in together, Caleb having a good friend who turns out supportive and so an occasion for him to be openly with Peter, the gift of the cashmere sweater so Caleb feeling comfortable enough to no longer count all his money and lead a threadbare life but to also spend money on things to make Peter happy (even though they agreed no presents! He really wanted to!) Something in the vein of these elements would please me.
Also! Peter’s nameless sister. She has no name. Even his philandering uncle gets a name. I’ve been thinking of her as Francine, because their father is Francis, but in any case, if you mention her from Peter’s POV, please give her a name (POV thought about 'his sister' fine, but the inequality of 'Lawrence and his sister' makes me a bit sad).
Whyborne and Griffin - Jordan L. Hawk - Whyborne, Griffin
I’d love a time travel AU take on their relations. There are a couple of bits in the series where there is some thought of what it might have been like had they met back in Chicago. But at that time Griffin is not only casually sleeping with Elliot (and Glenn) but has in general a more negative approach to romance and relationships, and would certainly be sceptical of the future he supposedly has with Whyborne. Maybe Whyborne’s seeking out Griffin while trying to find a way back home. I don't see Whyborne as a 'let the timeline play out' type either if he’s early enough, I think he'd want to help Griffin not face the horrors of the asylum. Interactions with Elliot as someone who enjoys Griffin’s trust (and affection) in the past while having reasons to doubt him because of his canonical behaviour would be interesting. I’m mostly interested in these timeline-dissonant interactions, feel free to avoid the focus on consequences of such a change (maybe it's an AU universe; I’d only prefer for it not to be explicitly stuck in the new timeline, since it’s sad if we end up with a very invested Whyborne with memories of years of relationship with a Griffin he’s never going to see again).
I’d also be interested in seeing something about Griffin and his remaining brother. When the mess with Jack is going down, he has the self-recrimination that he should have been more open about Whyborne, but that’s difficult. I enjoy fiction about complicated family relationships and would be very happy if the brother had some mixed feelings about his brother’s relationship but nevertheless was interested in getting to know Griffin again a bit. I’d love it if the second brother were a union man – a reason to be wary of Whyborne that’s not him being a sorcerer! Plus potential for conflict over Griffin’s Pinkerton past.
AU where Guinevere didn’t die and the planned meeting with Persephone actually took place? AU where Elliot survives (even if he still offers) so they actually have to deal with him more? I’d enjoy something exploring Griffin and Elliot’s relationship in Threshold in light of Griffin’s comments that his relationship with Whyborne has made him think less positively of his relations with Elliot and of Elliot’s behaviour towards him. Relatedly, though without the additional Elliot-specific bitterness, something with a bit of angst about Griffin meeting one of his old Chicago friends again, now as a changed man? Something about the relationship between Niles and Griffin as he moves from unknown intended sacrifice to part of the family? I really liked their scene after Persephone came to dinner at Whyborne House.
I liked the early mutual insecurity over their relationship in the earlier books, and equally I’d like something in that vein: the sense of holding on to something for as long as you could, but fearing an end to it lurks somewhere unseen. I'm particularly interested in the note-breakup part of the first book. An AU where Griffin getting arrested and nearly sacrificed doesn’t provide an opportunity for them to get back together after the notes, the case draws on, and so does the angst?
Largely separate to this request, but I’d also love fic about Daphne and her turning to (and into) Nitocris to free herself from her abusive husband; there you can skip out W&G altogether.
Thank you for reading my letter!
